Schenck Forest is open to the public for hiking, birdwatching and other recreational activities. The terrain features gravel roads and dirt trails, with a topography that ranges from flat to rolling.

Bicycling is not permitted, and dogs have been banned due to the disturbance to the land and classes.

To use the forest — and its facilities — for any organizational or personal events, you must receive permission from the Forest Assets Team at NC State’s College of Natural Resources.

You can email the team at or call at 919-515-7321. There is a minimum charge for organizing events and reserving facilities depending on the type of event/activity.
